Jenny and Roger Couples Session

This is the warmest Minnesota winter I can ever remember, and may go down in the record books.  I haven’t even put gas in my snow blower yet, and it’s the middle of February!  So naturally I picked the one of the only days this winter where it was actually so cold that it hurt!  High of 14, windchill closer to zero or maybe below, and I scheduled three outdoor shoots!  This is the last of those three shoots.

Jenny has been a friend of mine since way back in high school.  Thank goodness for Facebook keeping us in touch because it was great to see her and have the chance to take pictures for her.  I wish we could have caught up more, but it was just too cold to be outside!  Roger and Jenny make such a cute couple, and I was thrilled to be able to photograph them.  Thanks to both of you and I look forward to doing a family shoot in the future!

Jasmine & James Couples Shoot

This is the warmest Minnesota winter I can ever remember, and may go down in the record books.  I haven’t even put gas in my snow blower yet, and it’s the middle of February!  So naturally I picked the one of the only days this winter where it was actually so cold that it hurt!  High of 14, windchill closer to zero or maybe below, and I scheduled three outdoor shoots!  This is the second of those three shoots.

Jasmine and James were up for trying anything, and this session was extremely experimantal.  We hiked up to the light rails station in the somewhat unsavory neighborhood of Lake and Hiawatha.  There were quiet some characters up there!  Jasmine and James were very patient as we waited for several trains to arrive, just to catch the movement of the train just right.

Then we went to the Midtown Greenway Hiawatha Bridge for a couple of shots there.  James and Jasmine were really fun to work with, and I think they had fun just being away from the kids for a little while and just enjoying being a couple.  I hope you guys had fun and warmed up!

Samantha and Mark Engagement Mini Session

This is the warmest Minnesota winter I can ever remember, and may go down in the record books.  I haven’t even put gas in my snow blower yet, and it’s the middle of February!  So naturally I picked the one of the only days this winter where it was actually so cold that it hurt!  High of 14, windchill closer to zero or maybe below, and I scheduled three outdoor shoots!  This is the first of those three shoots.

Sam and Mark are recently engaged and will be married in a few short months.  They were troopers to brave it in the bitter cold, and it was funny to watch Sam hide every inch of exposed skin in between pictures to stay warm.  I wish I could have gotten to know them better but we were in such a hurry to get out of the cold.  I think we made the best of it, capturing these photos that I hope they can enjoy for a lifetime.  Congratulations Sam and Mark, and all the best to you in your future.

Mony and Chad Mini Engagement Session

Mony and Chad are such an interesting and cute couple.  I’m not sure Mony said more than a couple words, and Chad was ready to buy shots!  It was an interesting dynamic to watch such different personalities come together to find love.  I think they are an amazing couple and I wish them a lifetime of love and happiness.  I’m hoping to work with them in the future (wink, wink) and Chad and I can get that shot!  I love the pictures, I hope you do too.

9th Month Maternity Session

My wife is an amazing person.  She wears many hats including wife, mother, and guinea pig to my photography.  She is an easy subject to capture, and to watch her and my son Paxton interact with my future son Marshall is really amazing.  I can’t wait to meet Marshall and soon the world will get to meet him as well.

To my wife Missy… thank you for sacrificing so much for our family.  I love you more and more every day.

To Paxton…you are a ham sandwich and you make me smile everyday.

I’m so lucky to have you both, and soon the three of you (Plus those naughty dogs).

Zachman Family Session

I am so thrilled to have the pleasure of photographing this adorable family.  We started the session indoors at the Zachman house, and it was really a test to see how well my “mobile” studio would work.  It allows the flexibility to shoot anywhere and have it look like a professional studio setup, without all the backdrops and gear.  Gus the family dog was a little hesitant to be photographed at first, but he warmed up to it!

Then we decided to go outside and play in the couple of centimeters of snow we’ve gotten so far this year.  It was fun because it gave Braeden the opportunity to play and really let loose.

I think my favorite moments include his parents smooshing his face for kisses on the cheeks, and Braeden laughing hysterically at watching his parents kiss. It was like he’d never seen it before!

Big thanks to the Zachman’s for the opportunity.  It was fun, and I hope we can do it again!

Fresh Snow!

While people are my favorite subject to photograph, a fresh snow can create some really amazing images.  It’s so beautiful when the branches are coated with snow, but it just doesn’t last.  I was lucky to find the time to capture these in Elk River today.  It was fun exploring my new home town.  Enjoy!

Photo Retouching

Although taking perfect pictures right from the camera is the goal, it’s just not the case most of the time.  Most pictures require some sort of touch up to really master the image correctly and get that professional look I strive to capture.  I thought I’d share some of the work I’ve done to highlight what is possible. These are examples of alterations and enhancements that are included in the price of your session.

I am capable of more extreme alterations for additional charges like swapping out faces/heads, cloning objects or people out of images, texture overlays and high dynamic range. With the tools I have and the technology that exists, really the sky is the limit.

The “Before” is on the left, “After” on the right.

Thanks for looking!

Snell Engagement Session

It was so great to work Adam and Laura.  They are some of the most fun people I know, so I knew that we would have a blast.  They were so easy to work with, and allowed me to try all of my crazy ideas.  I’m proud of the results and I think you can tell how much fun we were having from the pictures.  Thanks again to Adam and Laura for giving me the opportunity to capture this moment in your lives.
